Today we will talk about lore, and lore dumps. Every story has lore whether its, a characters backstory, a unique creature you created for this world, how magic works, or something else entirely. In every story lore is essential. It helps the reader to understand the world and the characters within it.
However, one pitfall some writers succumb to is lore dumping. Lore dumping is when you put large amounts of lore in one area of your writing. You don't want to write and then when something needs to be explained put a full paragraph or more of lore information.
Instead what you want to try to do is sneak tidbits of your lore throughout the story. There are several ways to achieve. For example, when describing something show how it is truly unique to this world, or how a character might have an attachment or fear of it for some reason. In dialogue have characters explain pieces of the lore subtly. My personal favorite way to sneak in lore though is to have little sections at the begging of each chapter called epigraphs, which explain things from a character's point of view who is not directly involved with the story.
Well that's all I had for today, be sure to check in next week for more writing advice! If you have a topic that you specifically want me to cover please leave it in the comments. As always thank you for your support! Until next week dear Readers.
